Saint John LUNCH & LEARN – September 20, 2018 - Being Agile in a Waterfall World

Join us on September 20, when Dr Scott Underwood of Irving Oil will share the following:

Event Details:   Lunch & Learn Event - Being Agile in a Waterfall World- Agile project management has earned status as a viable methodology for PMs looking to manage change within their projects. What types of projects work well with Agile project management? How do you budget an Agile project in a waterfall environment? How do you convince management that Agile is the right approach for your project? This presentation will be an exploration of using Agile project management in an organization that is more comfortable with Waterfall methodologies. Using 8 years of his practical experience in Agile, Dr. Underwood will try to help answer these questions and more.

Originally from Halifax, NS, Dr. Scott Underwood started his IT career through consulting work while still at university in 1994. His career has spanned across several roles in IT including application development, project management, team management and leadership using many different technologies and methodologies along the way. Dr. Underwood moved to Saint John in 2001 as the lead developer and project manager in the web development department for FCS. Dr. Underwood then worked in the IT department for the City of Saint John for 6 years and has now spent the last 6 years with Irving Oil. At Irving Oil, he is the Information Services Manager, focused on the data analytics, data integration, and master data management for the organization. A firm believer in perpetual learning, Dr. Underwood earned his MBA in 2010 from the University of Fredericton, and his Doctor of Business Administration in 2016 through Walden University. He also teaches courses in the UNBSJ MBA program. In 2010 he found Agile project management as a methodology that aligned well with the types of projects he was managing and hasn’t looked back since. He has earned his PMP, PMI Agile Certified Practitioner, in addition to several other Agile certifications.
